So, its been a hot minute….A very hot minute, indeed.
First, I’ll like to say a big thank you to everyone who reached out to me during my unintended hiatus to inquire about me and why I have been quiet. I’m grateful. And then, let me apologise because I could have written a programming note, informing you all that I would be away for some time. I’ll be honest however, and tell you that I did not plan to be away this long and frankly, I cannot believe that I was able to keep from writing (ranting) for such a long stretch of time.
In the time since I’ve been writing actively, I’ve never been able to keep from writing for this long and I assure you, I’ve missed it! I’ve missed it a lot.
So let me start by offering an explanation.
Like most people, I was excited about the EndSARS protests. I am going to do my best to refrain from spilling my opinion on EndSARS in this post since that’s not what this is about, but as you might expect, I have loads of opinion to share. Ab initio, I was not going to write about EndSARS for a lot of reasons, key of which is that I am not a political scientist and I still feel that experts should properly document that watershed event in the history of our country. I changed my mind however, and I started to write an article but it was not meant for a newspaper nor this medium (daraalegbeleye.com). I wouldn’t yet tell you what I have been up to, but I will share the article together with a summary note as soon as it’s done.
It’s been a very sad, challenging ride, writing that article. I think its part of why I have had difficulties exploring any developmental issues in recent time. Those who have followed my writing may have noticed that I like to share ideas on possible solutions to whatever problems I may raise in my articles. While I haven’t given up totally, my enthusiasm has grown incredibly tepid and I generally find it hard persuading other people, if I am not convinced myself.
Another thing is that I got overtly obsessed with historical accuracy. Ordinarily, I tend to be fastidious with details, but this time, I got so worked up with trying to get everything straight because of the magnitude of importance I had attached to it mentally, that I began to dread opening the EndSARS document on my computer. That’s a fresh experience for me. This sort of writing is typically a lot of fun.
So now that I am returning to sharing my opinion on topical issues with you all, I would like to tell you that forthwith, whatever ‘solutions’ I might proffer are not directed at the current crop of business, political and administrative leaders.
It seems clear to me at this point, that even the brightest of them are too disoriented and overwhelmed by associated challenges that they will not be able to steer the now sinking ship that is our Country in the right direction. Over the next several years however, a new crew will likely emerge, attitudes will shift, public enlightenment will grow and Nigeria will likely become a little easier to govern. In the interim, we can keep hope alive and continue to deliberate on relevant, actionable issues, but with a renewed focus.
I will be covering health, financial and cultural issues in the coming weeks and I hope that you will take this ride with me! I intend to take more time to interact with those who send me feedback and will ask for your suggestions on topics to cover. I am excited to be back and look forward to engaging with you all.
Keep well and God bless!
